The bed is the location where the player stands at each night (Unless you are in Freedom mode).
Under the bed is where Thomas has spare batteries for the flashlight, but the boogeyman can also be under there. If Thomas checks under the bed while the boogeyman is there, he will be killed, resulting in an instant game over.
Battery Efficiency[]
If you do get a battery from under the bed, you will not get a choice in which one you get. There are 3 different types of batteries you can get. Red Batteries, Green Batteries, and Blue Batteries.
- Red Batteries add 1 charge to the flashlight (Common)
- Green Batteries add 2 charges to the flashlight (Uncommon)
- Blue Batteries add 5 charges to the flashlight (fully recharges the flashlight) (Rare)
Animation Cancel[]
In the very first version of the game, the animation for looking under the bed could not be cancelled. You can let go before you actually check and climb back up, however the boogeyman will still kill the player if he was down there. This was later fixed. Now, as long as you don't actually look under, you can change your mind and climb up before checking, even if he was there (which you wouldn't know since you didn't check).
RNG[]
In the older versions of the game (Pre-3.0), looking under the bed was pure RNG if the boogeyman was under there.
It was stated by the developer that on normal conditions there is:
- A 50% chance to get a battery (specifically a 1/12 chance to get a blue one)
- A 25% chance to get absolutely nothing
- A 25% chance to get the boogeyman
However, these odds change right after flashing away the boogeyman for 2 seconds before the odds change back to the ones listed above. It is noted that this strategy is more optimal for later nights to lower the risk of the boogeyman being under as much as possible.
- A 30% chance to get a battery
- A 65% chance to get absolutely nothing
- A 5% chance to get the boogeyman
3.0 Version[]
The RNG for the boogeyman was completely reworked. The risk factor for the boogeyman (the finger-crossing just hoping he wasn't there) was completely removed. Now, if the boogeyman is under the bed, he will make breathing noises.
⚠️The bed has also become a new place that the boogeyman can attack. He can reach up on either side of the bed to grab Thomas and pull him under. This can only happen from Night 4 onward.⚠️
